Virtual Travel Fair Gets Strong Response from Travel Buyers

More than 70,000 Visits Online Travel Fair, Generating Travel Packages Enquiry Value worth RM14million

15th April 2013 – There is a growing trend towards online travel buys among Malaysian consumers as demonstrated by the strong increase of online visitor’s to SOTA’s fifth Virtual Travel Fair (VTF) that had concluded recently. According to Rohizam Md Yusoff, CEO of Creative Advances Technology Sdn Bhd, the developer of SOTA, the response was amazing as they experienced almost twice as many daily visitors and a triple digit growth of 131% in travel package enquiry value, as compared to the 4th VTF that was held last September.

“In every VTF we organize, we continue to see a growing momentum of participation and increasing interest from both travel providers and travel buyers. In this VTF, we have more than 4,000 travel packages being offered as well as accommodation offered by 150,000 hotels worldwide. We have more than 70,000 online visitors from this 17 day fair and approximately RM14million worth of travel packages enquiry were generated in the VTF,” said Rohizam.

The theme of this 5th VTF was ‘Great Deals, More Choices.” Some of the destinations that have received a lot of attention and travel enquiries from travel buyers in the VTF are locations such as Tioman, Australia and New Zealand.

Three lucky SOTA members also won prizes in the form of a one-night stay at the Anggun Boutique Hotel in Kuala Lumpur worth RM340 each simply by registering their interest to join the VTF. According to Phoon Sook Chan, one of the winners, “I am thrilled as I did not expect to be selected as the winner. Prior to joining this VTF, I thought we can visit physical travel fairs only”.

Apart from other prizes that were offered before and during the VTF, a series of e-auctions were also held during the VTF. Singapore’s Universal Studio tickets were among the items that received the most number of bids during the e-auction.

Rohizam added that the intention of organizing the bi-annual VTF is to revolutionize the way people buy travel offerings in a travel fair. Instead of having to jostle with crowds and being caught in traffic jams, travel buyers can browse and purchase a wide variety of discounted domestic and international travel packages online anytime and anywhere.
